Privacy policy
The short version
- A parent or guardian sets up each child. Children can't sign up on their own.
- We keep only what the learning needs: a nickname, a birth year, interests and what the child plays.
- Each child's data lives in that child's own private space. It never goes into the shared game library.
- No ads, no trackers, no third-party analytics, no chat with strangers, no selling data. Ever.
- You can see, download and delete everything from Parent Studio, at any time.
What we keep
About you (the parent)
- Your email, and your name if you add it. If you sign in with Apple or Google, the account identifier they give us.
- Your family's settings, your chats with the Bops helper, and the games you make or share.
About each child
- Nickname (not their real name, if you prefer), birth year and month, interests, and a 4-digit PIN (stored scrambled, never readable).
- The character they design, and what they do in their world: games played, answers, time spent, stars, and the skills this shows.
- Spoken answers and photos of drawings, only when a game asks and the child chooses to record. You decide in Studio whether these are scored by a service (see below) or reviewed by you.
Who helps us (service providers)
They process data only to run playBops for you, under contract, and not for their own purposes.
- Cloudflare: hosting, storage and sign-in emails.
- Anthropic (Claude): powers the Bops helper that builds games and gives hints. It sees an age band, interests, goals and skills, never the child's name or photo. Photos of drawings are sent only if you turn on “Score drawings”.
- Deepgram: turns spoken answers into text, only if you turn on “Score spoken answers” for that child. Off, recordings stay in playBops and you review them.
- Apple and Google: only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Whop: payments for paid plans. We never see or store card numbers.
How long we keep it
- Voice recordings are deleted once they're scored or you've reviewed them, and after 30 days at the latest, unless you choose “Keep voice recordings”. The text and score stay.
- Everything else stays until you delete it. When you delete a child or your account, it's removed from playBops right away and from our backups within 30 days.
Your choices and rights
- See it: the weekly report and each child's page in Parent Studio.
- Download it: Studio → the child → Settings → Download data.
- Delete it: delete one child (Studio → the child → Settings), or your whole family account (Studio → Settings).
- Stop it: turn off scoring services, unpair a device, or delete the child. You can withdraw consent at any time; tell us and we'll help.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
playBops is made for children, so we follow the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. We collect a child's information only after a parent or guardian creates their profile and agrees to this policy. We ask for a separate choice before a child's voice or drawings go to an outside service. We collect no more than the learning needs, and we don't let children share personal information publicly or with other users.
Bops Lab (ages 13+)
Bops Lab at playbops.com/lab is for learners 13 and up, who can make their own account. We check the birth month and year first; younger learners are sent to the kids product and nothing is stored. A learner can let a parent follow their progress by sharing a code. The parent's view is read-only.
Security
Everything travels over HTTPS. Sign-in tokens and PINs are stored scrambled. Each child's data is kept apart in its own storage space.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell parents by email and ask again where the law requires.
